The opening will become an interactive event open to the public, with the participation of the author and psychiatrist David Gallego de la Sacristana, the day after tomorrow, Thursday, February 27, at 7:30 p.m.

Text, photographs, and videos make up «Una vaca en el pasillo,» an exhibition in which Avilés artist Javier Villabrille reflects on suicide, and which was awarded one of the Artistic Production Grants from the Department of Culture in 2023. It opens the day after tomorrow, Thursday, February 27, at the Factoría Cultural at 7:30 p.m., in an event open to the public where there will be reflections on this form of death, and will feature the presence of the author and psychiatrist David Gallego de la Sacristana.

The exhibition becomes a manifesto that aims to draw attention to the alarming number of suicides in Asturias, leading the statistics in Spain and one of the highest in Europe.

Although, for the first time in the last five years, the suicide rate has decreased in our country, Asturias continues to be the autonomous community with the most alarming figures: 12.54 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, compared to the national average of 8.8. A total of 128 people took their own lives in Asturias last year, making this issue a top public health problem.

The presentation, which will feature the artist Javier Villabrille and psychiatrist David Gallego de la Sacristana, will be interactive, inviting attendees to participate in an enriching discussion about the role of art in reflecting on and addressing issues that affect all Asturians.
