Nature guide, forest monitor, and photographer, she is the author of the books A Window to the Forest and On the Path
The author Noelia Velasco joins the cycle ‘Friday with female voice’ with an encounter at the Women’s House this Friday at 18:00, with free entry until full capacity. She will talk about her two books: A Window to the Forest, Desnivel 2023 award winner, and On the Path.
Her first novel, A Window to the Forest, won the XXV Literature Prize of Editorial Desnivel. A work that addresses not only survival in the wild nature but also the challenge of facing deeply rooted fears and attachments, enriched with ancestral wisdom on medicinal plants.
Her latest book, On the Path, is part of the ‘Paseos Collection’ of Editorial Tundra. This non-fiction writing is an invitation to connect the senses with the forest through serene walks, attentive observation of the environment, and the resonance it awakens in perception, guided by both scientific knowledge and emotion. A journey through trees, herbs, birds, and the complex network of connections that give life to the forest and its groves.
Noelia Velasco (1977) is a nature guide, forest monitor, and photographer. She also has a multidisciplinary background in forest management, environmental education, and mountain guiding. She currently works as a Nature Guide in the gardens of the Evaristo Valle Museum in Gijón.
Her work is based on researching the forest ecosystem from a scientific perspective, but without forgetting the spiritual support in which life unfolds. She also specializes in recognizing edible and medicinal wild plants, advising restaurants and individuals who wish to learn and incorporate the proximity of this type of vegetation into their daily lives.
She shares her discoveries and understandings through workshops, guided Silvitherapy paths, on the website www.silviterapia.com, and on the YouTube channel Memories of the Forest, as well as on the Instagram account of the same name.
"Friday with Female Voice" is the name of a new cycle that aims to be a space at the Women’s House where, throughout the year, several Fridays will be dedicated to activities related to women.
