El programa Cine Sénior llevó a más de 27.000 espectadores a las salas del Principado en 2024

The Cine Sénior program, promoted by the Ministry of Culture through the Institute of Cinematography and Audiovisual Arts (ICAA), attracted 27,414 viewers to the cinemas of the Principality of Asturias in 2024.

In Spain, 33.4% of the movie tickets sold between May and December of last year – the months in which the program was active – came from the Cine Sénior initiative, promoted by the Ministry of Culture. A total of 1,690,758 viewers in Spain attended cinemas benefiting from this measure.

According to data from the Spanish Cinema Federation (FECE), in this second edition of the program, 766,034 senior viewers attended cinemas compared to the first edition in 2023, representing an 82% increase.

As a result, attendance at cinemas on Tuesdays at a reduced price of 2 euros for people over 65 has established this day of the week as the third best day of the week, behind Saturday and Wednesday, according to FECE.

Furthermore, general attendance at cinemas on Tuesdays for all types of audiences during the Cine Sénior campaign period increased by 23% compared to the previous year’s edition, rising from 4,092,992 total viewers on Tuesdays in 2023 to 5,051,848 total viewers on Tuesdays in 2024.

‘LA INFILTRADA’, ‘EL 47’, AND ‘LA CASA EN FLAMES’, THE MOST VIEWED

Among the films chosen by senior viewers, Spanish movies such as ‘La Infiltrada’, ‘El 47’, ‘Casa en flames’, ‘La habitación de al lado’, ‘Marco’, ‘Soy Nevenka’, and ‘La virgen roja’ stood out.

Meanwhile, the autonomous communities with the most senior viewers were Catalonia with 427,892; the Community of Madrid with 358,699; and the Valencian Community with 211,362. The distribution of senior viewers in the rest of the autonomous communities was as follows: 124,460 in Andalusia, 83,574 in Aragon, 27,414 in the Principality of Asturias, 20,826 in the Balearic Islands, 19,762 in the Canary Islands, 14,066 in Cantabria, 122,456 in Castilla y León, 35,351 in Castilla-La Mancha, 149 between Ceuta and Melilla, 14,127 in Extremadura, 43,863 in Galicia, 13,341 in La Rioja, 20,985 in the Region of Murcia, 31,040 in Navarra, and 121,391 in the Basque Country.
