The electoral campaign of the Asturian Federation of Entrepreneurs (FADE) begins on Monday, March 31 and will last until the day before the vote, which will take place on Friday, April 11. On that same day, at 6:00 p.m., the new presidency will be officially proclaimed.
In the process, two candidates will measure their strengths. On one hand, the current president, who is running for re-election, María Calvo Carvajal. On the other hand, José Manuel Ferreira Diz is also running for the position.
Their candidacies were officially validated last Tuesday by the FADE electoral board, once the presentation period had ended and the documentation had been reviewed.
Both have exceeded the minimum threshold required by FADE’s statutes, which requires the support of at least 20% of the members of the Board of Directors.
However, even before the campaign began, the two candidates exchanged reproaches. Ferreira issued a press release on Saturday regarding FADE’s electoral roll, in which he spoke of a «dark pact» to accommodate the elections in favor of «scarcely democratic interests.»
Calvo later responded with another press release, asking to stop «muddying» and «disrespecting» entrepreneurs. «If anyone believes there has been any irregularity, they should raise it with the electoral bodies or the courts,» she said.
