Vox critica los plazos «indecentes» del Plan de Vías y acusa al Ministerio de una huida hacia adelante

Rouco criticizes the «hidden interest of the socialists to harm Gijón»

The spokesperson for Vox in the City Council of Gijón, Sara Álvarez Rouco, accused the Ministry of Transport on Monday of engaging in a «headlong rush» with the Plan de Vías and the intermodal station, «committing to a series of investments and deadlines that are only surrounded by uncertainties.»

Rouco, who appeared at a press conference at the Gijón City Hall on this day, considered the timelines given for the demolition of the Carlos Marx viaduct «indecent,» as construction will not start until September 2026.

Regarding the intermodal station, she emphasized that «the horizon extends well beyond 2030, at least 10 years, so it seems that the provisional Sanz Crespo station, an inadequate construction, will continue to serve as the final station,» Rouco lamented, according to a press release from Vox.

«They distract us with the building size and volume of the ‘solarón’ park, to make it seem like there is a debate when in reality there is nothing,» she warned.

On the other hand, she referred to the expansion of the Cabueñes hospital, for which the Principality has announced the construction of an additional floor when in reality, in her opinion, «there are no works, no progress, nothing.»

In addition, Rouco questioned why they insist on continuing to deceive citizens by trying to dress up the interruption of a crucial project for Gijón as a responsible success, attributing the halt in work to «negligence, lack of control and monitoring, and incompetence on the part of the Ministry of Health,» she said.

The Vox spokesperson also mentioned the ‘Naval Azul’ project, which she considered «difficult to execute.» With that said, she expressed her lack of understanding for «the hidden interest of the socialists to harm Gijón.»

In this regard, she opined that the appointment of former councilor Nieves Roqueñí as President of the Gijón Port Authority «was a clear sign that the socialists had dug up the hatchet of war to hinder an infrastructure that would benefit Gijón.»

Furthermore, she highlighted the «imprudence» of the mayor of Gijón in announcing actions «that were not under her control, such as the promenade.» Additionally, she pointed out that the fate of the former Pymar shipyard lands remains unknown.

Regarding the arrival of a private university in Gijón, she warned that tying its presence to non-binding reports, unlike anywhere else in Spain, «foreshadows certain problems,» Rouco remarked, seeing it as «another injustice against Gijón.»

The Vox spokesperson also criticized the potential installation of a renewable energy components company in the Logistics and Industrial Activities Zone of the Principality of Asturias (Zalia).

She emphasized that «Zalia was designed as a logistics zone, and since the socialists are unable to use it for that purpose, they want to convert it into an industrial estate.»

Whether or not the Sunwafe project succeeds, Rouco made it clear that «it is extremely irresponsible to disclose such uncertain news, speaking of thousands of jobs and investments exceeding 600 million euros when the project is still in its infancy.»
