La Universidad de Oviedo, una de las peores valoradas por estudiantes españoles

A survey of 35,000 young people reveals that private school students are 9% more satisfied with their school than public school students

The University of Oviedo is among the worst rated by Spanish students according to the ‘Macroencuesta Universitaria 2025’ study conducted by Lab4Future and Wuolah, based on data collected in the 2024/2025 academic year from a total of 35,319 students from 99% of universities in the Spanish University System.

Of the five universities best rated by Spanish students, three are private and two are public, while the five worst rated by students are public, with the University of La Laguna (3.13), the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (3.25), the National Distance Education University (3.3); the University of Oviedo (3.31); and the University of the Balearic Islands (3.45) being the lowest rated.

Specifically, the best rated are the Polytechnic University of Valencia (4.22 out of 5); the Catholic University of San Antonio de Murcia (4.18 out of 5); Loyola University (4.17 out of 5); CEU Cardenal Herrera University (4.09 out of 5); and Pompeu Fabra University (4.09 out of 5).

Private university students are on average 9% more satisfied with their school than public university students and especially highlight the technological level and student attention.

In this sense, the research details that the satisfaction of students in private universities is 3.95 out of 5, compared to 3.63 out of five for public university students.

In addition, 81.7% of the surveyed young people say they would study at their current university again, while 86.2% would repeat their degree.

The survey indicates that 87% of university students in Spain believe that there is not enough guidance to help them decide on their future.

The average satisfaction of university students in Spain is 7.2/10; and one in three says they started their degree without being sure what to study.

53.6% study in person, while 10.7% move to another city and 2.9% study online. Online study is more common among those over 34 years old (35%).

The decisive factors in choosing a career are, first, vocation, followed by employability, while when choosing a university, the most important factor is proximity and accessibility, ahead of the cutoff grade.

The ten careers that their students would study again are Nursing, Dentistry, Medicine, Psychology, Veterinary, Early Childhood Education, Biomedical Engineering, Primary Education, Physiotherapy, and Social Education. In all of them, more than 90% say they would study the same career again.

On the other hand, the careers that university students would least repeat are Tourism, English Studies, Sociology, Finance and Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, Food Science and Technology, Journalism, Chemistry, and Marketing.

Among the students’ proposals to improve the Spanish university system, they highlight the elimination of the current evaluation system in favor of one more based on practice; equalizing education throughout Spain, given the «unjust» difference in subject content and academic level between regions; adding subjects like Logic, Home Management, or how to use smartphones; giving greater importance to creativity and critical thinking.
