The Department of Education of the Principality has launched a campaign this Monday to «encourage enrollment» in Asturian and Galician-Asturian language in the next school year, aimed at primary, secondary, and high school students in publicly funded centers.
This initiative, under the slogan ‘Apúntome’, aims to promote «linguistic and cultural diversity» in the Principality, highlighting the benefits of studying these languages during the different educational stages and their link to Asturian «identity signs», as explained by the Principality in a press release.
To achieve this, the campaign will use «an attractive visual design and simple language suitable for all audiences and non-sexist», as well as a multichannel dissemination strategy that combines traditional media with digital platforms like Facebook and Instagram, in line with the communication habits of the younger population. All content will be tagged with the hashtag #educallingua.
### INCENTIVIZING ENROLLMENT IN ASTURIAN LANGUAGE
The campaign will be carried out in three phases, starting this Monday, April 7, and will run until April 11 in the first phase, prior to Easter week.
After a short break, it will resume from April 21 to 25, coinciding with the period for submitting admission applications, which will be open from April 21 to May 6.
The third cycle will take place from June 13 to 23, shortly before the enrollment period, which will be from June 18 to 25 for Primary and from June 30 to July 11 for Secondary and High School.
### REINFORCEMENT IN EDUCATIONAL CENTERS
As a complement to the media campaign, the Education Department will distribute promotional materials in educational centers in three phases: first, informative posters will be sent to schools and institutes; then, students will receive brochures and pens; and during the enrollment period, bookmarks with the school calendar for the next year will be distributed.
Although Asturian language is a mandatory subject in all stages, its teaching remains voluntary. Students can choose to take it at the beginning of each school year, even if they chose another elective in previous years.
This initiative comes after a 1.2% increase in enrollment in Asturian Language and Literature, the highest figure recorded in recent years. Detailed information about the campaign, as well as access to content and key dates, is available on the Educastur portal.
