Julian Orbon bids farewell to Balsera Palace in the VII Cultural Week with eight activities

The Cultural Week of the Municipal Professional Conservatory Julián Orbón reaches its seventh edition from April 7 to 11. Considered a fundamental cultural and educational event in Avilés’ artistic programming, it will mark the farewell to the current headquarters of the conservatory.
Eight activities have been organized, including five concerts, the Larreal Dance show that has become a classic of this week, a talk by music educator María Valverde, and a conference by luthier Roberto Jardón Rico. These events will take place at the Conservatory, the House of Culture, and the Palacio Valdés Theater.
In addition to these activities, guided tours of Balsera Palace have been scheduled for April 13 and 16 at 17:15 and 19:15, and on April 18 and 20 only at 19:15. These tours will be led by historian and tour guide María Fernanda Fernández Gutiérrez, who has conducted extensive research on the palace, revealing many previously unknown elements of its history to the public.
The complete program was presented this morning by Councilor for Culture Yolanda Alonso and Conservatory Director Carlos Galán.
The week will kick off with a concert by the University of Oviedo Orchestra at the Casa Municipal de Cultura auditorium on Monday at 19:30. They will perform Delius’ Florida Suite and Mozart’s Don Giovanni Overture, conducted by Pedro Ordieres.
On Tuesday, the Conservatory hall will host two concerts. At 18:00, Isabel Baigorri will conduct the elementary and professional choirs. Later, the faculty will bid farewell to Balsera Palace with a final concert at 19:30 featuring «The Last Waltz» with ten teachers and guest musicians.
For the first time, the educational project Creando Sinergia (CreSi) will offer a concert in Avilés by the Clarinet and Percussion Ensemble of the Principality of Asturias on Friday at the House of Culture.
The Spring Concert of the Conservatory students will take place on Thursday with the presence of the Julián Orbón Symphonic Band, directed by Marcos Malnero.
In the educational realm, luthier Roberto Jardón Rico will give a conference on his recent research on the Stradivari Boissier-Sarasate violin of 1713 at the Casa de Cultura on Wednesday. Additionally, pianist and educator María Valverde (valgreen) will chat on Friday at the conservatory about music education.
As a tradition, Larreal has been invited. With over 30 years of history, this company of students from the Mariemma Professional Dance Conservatory in Madrid will bring a Classical and Spanish Dance show to the Palacio Valdés Theater on Wednesday at 20:00.
Invitation Retrieval
While all events at the Conservatory and the Municipal House of Culture are free entry, for shows at the House of Culture, invitations must be collected from the box office starting Monday, March 31, at 11:00. Concerts at the Conservatory Hall are free entry without prior reservation.
Tickets for the Larreal (dance) performance at the Palacio Valdés Theater can be purchased at the Municipal House of Culture box office or online for between 11 and 16 euros.
For guided tours of Balsera Palace, registration can be done by calling 985 561 015 from Monday, March 31, from 10:00 to 14:00 and 15:00 to 21:00, with a limit of two tickets per person. Recommended for ages 12 and up with limited capacity. The tour is not wheelchair accessible as it requires climbing stairs.
