The Real Grupo de Cultura Covadonga has awarded the design of the project for the new building that will house the future 25-meter indoor heated swimming pool.
The Group’s directors have analyzed three proposals from architecture firms. Ultimately, they have chosen the team formed by Alfredo Antuña, Daniel Villanueva, and Antonio Desmonts, with the collaboration of engineers specializing in structures and installations.
The project envisions a complete transformation of the current 25-meter pool, expanding its capabilities and optimizing its functionality to meet the high demand for use by members. In addition to the new water surface, the design includes reorganizing spaces to accommodate administrative, sports, and general service work areas, as well as new multi-activity rooms, storage areas, and a small gym linked to the swimming section.
One of the project’s most prominent elements will be the improvement of the environment and access through the North entrance, the most frequented by our members. The creation of a new welcoming plaza connected to the pavilion through landscaping and architectural elements that will enhance accessibility, stay, and visual integration with the rest of the Club is proposed.
«It is important to make it clear that this step does not yet imply the start of construction. The drafting team will now work on the preliminary project and later on the final project. Only then, with all the data on the table, will it be time to make important decisions,» said the president of the Grupo Covadonga, Joaquín Miranda.
The execution of this project, as it represents an economic commitment exceeding 5% of the Club’s budget, must be approved by an Extraordinary General Assembly, in compliance with the entity’s Statutes. The Assembly, as the sovereign body of the Group, will be the one to decide on the execution of the transformation.
