UD Almería has beaten Real Zaragoza 4-1 and has moved closer to the promotion playoffs to La Liga, during matchday 31 that also saw Albacete Balompié’s 2-0 victory over Malaga CF, Burgos CF’s 0-1 win against FC Cartagena, and the 1-1 draw between Córdoba and Real Sporting de Gijón.
Saturday’s session in LaLiga Hypermotion brought a lot of tension at the bottom. The relegation zone seems to no longer bother Burgos, who secured their third consecutive victory against Cartagena, who are at the bottom of the table. Álex Sancris scored the winning goal for Burgos from a penalty in the 42nd minute, after missing one last week.
At the Carlos Belmonte Stadium, Albacete secured three crucial points in a crazy match. Half an hour into the game, the team had the same number of goals as players sent off, with red cards for Christian Kofane and Antonio Pacheco, and another for Izan Merino on the Andalusian side.
Despite playing with a numerical advantage, Malaga posed little threat and ended the game with 39 points, five above the relegation zone as the matchday concluded. Albacete now has 40 points, while Eibar remains at 41 after a goalless draw against Racing de Ferrol, who are third from the bottom (23 points) and had suffered six consecutive defeats, almost adding a seventh in their visit to Ipurua.
The goals missing at A Malata were certainly enjoyed at the UD Almería Stadium. Colombian Luis Suárez, with a goal and two assists for the hosts, was the standout player of the match. His teammates Edgar González and Nico Melamed capitalized on his assists, and Marc Pubill sealed the victory for Almería, who now have 50 points.
In contrast, Zaragoza extended their winless streak to seven games and are now eighteenth with 36 points, dangerously close to the relegation zone. Córdoba (44 points) and Sporting (41 points) are far from those troubles, as they drew at the Nuevo Arcángel. Despite Carlos Albarrán’s goal just before halftime, the home team saw Carlos Dotor equalize with a header in the final stages, after Pablo García’s cross.
