Juan Carlos Fisher returns to the Teatro Palacio Valdés, directing and adapting the play «El Efecto,» by Lucy Prebble, alongside Rómulo Assereto. The Colombian director is joined by a stellar cast led by Alicia Borrachero and Fran Perea, in a double feature. The show is scheduled for the day after tomorrow, Friday 14, and Saturday 15 of March, both at 8:00 pm.

Tickets for the first show, available as part of a subscription, are nearly sold out, with more available for the second show. Tickets can be purchased at the Casa de Cultura box office, the websites www.teatropalaciovaldes.es and www.unientradas.es, and on the day of the performance from two hours before the show at the theater box office. Prices range from 12 to 22 euros.

This morning, the director Juan Carlos Fisher and the entire cast, including Alicia Borrachero, Fran Perea, Elena Rivera, and Itzan Escamilla, presented the play in the foyer of the theater.

British playwright and screenwriter Lucy Prebble, creator of the series «Succession,» was awarded the Critics’ Circle Award for Best New Play for her work on «El Efecto.» The play offers an intense and stimulating theatrical experience that delves deeply and humorously into the origins of love and the boundaries of ethics.

Because, how much of the attraction between two people is mere chemistry? When experiencing love, is it simply a rush of dopamine? Does the «self» differ from brain neurochemistry?

These are the questions that Connie and Tristán ask themselves when they discover they are in love. The problem is they don’t know if the connection they feel is real or the result of a new antidepressant. They are two volunteers in a clinical-pharmacological trial, and their romance raises alarming dilemmas for their supervising doctors.

With this production, Juan Carlos Fisher returns to the Teatro Palacio Valdés, where he previously premiered «Prima Facie» and directed «La Madre» last year. The show is produced by Producciones Teatrales Contemporáneas, with lighting by Ion Aníbal López, set design and costumes by Juan Sebastián Domínguez, Rómulo Assereto as assistant director, and Olvido Orovio as executive producer.
