Vox pide al PP datos e informes sobre nuevos radares en Oviedo

Following the announcement by the government team of the installation and upcoming operation of eight new radars in the municipality, the Vox Oviedo Municipal Group has requested the preparation, if it does not already exist, of a technical report that supports the suitability of this measure from the principles of legality, effectiveness, and proportionality.

«The Councilor for Citizen Security has stated that the selected locations respond to high accident rates and repeated complaints from residents about speeding. If this is the case, we understand that there should be a detailed report that includes accident data, traffic studies, number of speeding fines, preventive measures already taken, and their impact on reducing infractions and accidents,» said the Vox councilor.

Sonsoles Peralta adds that Vox Oviedo «acknowledge that some of the chosen points have been the scene of serious accidents», however, it is also true that many of them coincide with the area where the future Low Emission Zone will be implemented. «This is generating in a large part of the population the feeling that the sole purpose of these devices is revenue-generating,» warns Peralta.

The councilor regrets that the focus of municipal policy may not be on prevention and road safety education, but on control and sanctioning.» In this situation, Vox demands that the government team act with responsibility and transparency, especially when it comes to measures that affect the daily mobility of thousands of people in Oviedo.

Therefore, they «request the preparation and public release of a report that technically and legally justifies the installation of each of these radars, clearly explaining the reasons for placing them in those specific locations.»
