Sabela Prendes López, winner of the first Comic Contest organized by the Association for Peace and Solidarity

The initiative aims to raise awareness in society, especially among young people, to develop values such as equality and social justice
The winner of the first Comic Contest promoted by the Association for Peace and Solidarity of the CC.OO. union with the collaboration of the Department of Culture of the City Council of Avilés was Sabela Prendes López, from Candás. Ten works were submitted to the contest, which was held under the title ‘A story of international solidarity’.
The winning comic is titled «El Café» and was considered the best by a jury composed of professionals linked to CCOO and communication specialists.
The award ceremony for the winner will take place on Thursday, April 3 at 12:00 pm at the Museum of Urban History in Avilés and will be attended by Ana María García García, president of the Association for Peace and Solidarity, and Evelia Muñiz Menéndez, from the Comarcal Union of Workers’ Commissions of Avilés, accompanied by the Department of Culture, Yolanda Alonso.
This contest, in line with the objectives of the «Peace and Solidarity» association, aims to raise awareness in society, especially among young people, about the importance and need for cooperation between individuals, without profit, and «at a crucial moment to consider the need for solidarity, not as an act of charity, but as mutual aid among those who fight for equality and universal justice».
It is aimed at individuals over 16 years of age, regardless of their nationality or background, as the core reflection proposed by the Association for this edition was to raise awareness and consciousness about this issue, while stimulating creativity and promoting respect for the UN and its institutions, and compliance with Human Rights. The prize is worth 700 euros.
