Queipo advierte de que la rebaja del IRPF esconde una subida de impuestos en Asturias

The president of the Popular Party of Asturias, Álvaro Queipo, warned this Thursday that the alleged reduction of the IRPF announced by the regional government on Wednesday «actually hides another tax increase for the people of Asturias through another route, as IU has announced several times.»

Queipo recalled that the parliamentary spokesperson of Convocatoria-IU, Xabel Vegas, stated in January that the agreement with the PSOE for the tax increase was solidified and announced a pact with the Socialists on this issue through an initiative in the General Assembly.

The leader of the opposition in Asturias added that it is surprising that the regional government is now announcing something for 2026 that they voted against just eight days ago when the PSOE and ‘their partners’ rejected the PP’s proposal to lower the tax rates of the IRPF up to the 33,000 euro bracket and to eliminate the impact of inflation on this tax.

Queipo attributes the announcement by the government led by the Socialist Adrián Barbón to the fact that Asturias has become the autonomous community with the highest IRPF for low incomes, after the President of Catalonia, Salvador Illa, promoted a reduction in his region.

«The announcement of the alleged reduction of the IRPF comes in the context of the fact that Asturians are not only going to assume the debt of Catalan independence, with Barbón’s approval, but we will also see how, thanks to assuming that debt, taxes are lowered for Catalans,» he said.

Queipo argues that both Illa and Barbón «do what Pedro Sánchez dictates from Madrid.» For Queipo, this situation demonstrates «the lie of the Asturian tax route, based on deductions that are difficult to access in many cases and are insufficient compared to what our neighboring autonomous communities are doing; we are falling further behind and becoming less competitive.»

Álvaro Queipo concluded by stating that the PP will not accept any tax increase or any reform that leaves the community behind. «We will not accept any more lies from Barbón’s government or that their policies are decided from Madrid or Catalonia,» he emphasized, insisting that what Asturias needs is the tax reform that the PP presented earlier this year to provide tax relief to the people of Asturias through a tax reduction.
