Por Redaccion The government councilor of Social Centers, Covadonga Díaz, and the councilor delegated for the area, Rosario Suárez, have presented this morning, in a press conference, the IV Historical Costume Contest of the Brotherhood of El Desarme, which will take place on October 18th.
The councilor of Social Centers, Covadonga Díaz, accompanied by the head of the Brotherhood of El Desarme, Miguel Ángel De Dios, has stated that «this contest is one that year after year sees an increase in the number of participants in all its categories. This contest helps to enhance, even more, an event as important for Oviedo as El Desarme. In recent years, different elements have been added around the Gastronomic Days: conferences, poetic recitals, theatrical performances, parades, etc. All this with the aim of enriching the tradition and continuing to strengthen the ties with the people of Oviedo, where it is already deeply rooted. El Desarme is an indissoluble part of the identity of Oviedo. Few cities can boast of a celebration as unique as this one. I would like to remind you that to participate in this contest, it must be done through a social center that joins the initiative. Those interested should sign up at the center they choose.»
Díaz also highlighted «the excellent collaboration between the City Council of Oviedo and the Brotherhood of El Desarme. A partnership that is helping to consolidate this unique tradition, making it a reference in our country.» She publicly thanked «the work of the president of the Brotherhood of El Desarme and all its members, whose dedication, enthusiasm, and commitment have been key to enhancing this celebration and spreading the identity of Oviedo throughout Spain. For all of this, I strongly request support for El Desarme to be declared a National Tourist Interest Festival. A recognition of the collective effort, the historical and cultural richness that this tradition holds, and the passion of those who keep it alive with such dedication.»
The head of the Brotherhood of El Desarme, Miguel Ángel De Dios, «invites all residents of Oviedo, Asturians, and visitors to come during those days, from October 17th to 19th, to enjoy Oviedo, to enjoy El Desarme dressed in period costume, and participate in all the activities. The reason for this presentation is because the machinery in the social centers is already starting to work, and the seamstresses are beginning to show their creativity.» He also thanked Covadonga Díaz «for all the enthusiasm she puts into supporting us, as well as being a member of the Brotherhood, and to all the residents of Oviedo, because it is truly something we are all doing together. When we achieve the National Tourist Interest Festival status, it will be something for everyone within that gastronomic menu that is El Desarme, which encompasses gastronomy, culture, and history.»
He also mentioned that since March, «we also have the IV International Poetry Contest of El Desarme underway, and next month we will present all the performances that will take place during October related to the entire celebration, gastronomy, and promotion, both within Oviedo and beyond.»
