The presentation of the corporate image and slogan of Oviedo’s candidacy for European Capital of Culture 2031 took place this morning at La Fábrica de La Vega, designed by the Los Patos studio (Inés Iglesias and Matteo Mastronardi). The slogan «PUXA EUROPA. The future is now!» was unveiled.
The Mayor, Alfredo Canteli, emphasized the significance of the event, attended by over a hundred people, in the ongoing efforts to strengthen the candidacy. He highlighted the historical opportunity for the people of Asturias to come together and achieve a milestone that would undoubtedly shape our cultural and economic future. Canteli expressed confidence in the chosen logo and slogan, emphasizing the unity behind the project.
Canteli acknowledged the rigorous selection process faced by all cities vying for the title and praised the team leading Oviedo’s candidacy, emphasizing the diverse group of professionals working towards a successful project. He stressed the need to work collectively towards making Oviedo and Asturias one of the best European Capitals of Culture in history.
Rodolfo Sánchez, the director of the candidacy, presented the slogan «PUXA EUROPA. The future is now!» which aimed to showcase Asturias’ unique characteristics. He highlighted the institutional unity, the presence of a minority language, and the focus on culture as part of Europe’s future solutions.
Regarding the visual identity, Los Patos explained the design elements representing Oviedo 2031. The logo, based on a circle, allows for multiple combinations, symbolizing inclusivity and diversity.
Natalia Álvarez Simó announced an open call for entities, collectives, and individuals to actively participate in the candidacy with proposals aligned with the values set by the European Commission.
Vanessa Gutiérrez, the Minister of Culture of the Principality, closed the event by advocating for Oviedo’s candidacy as European Capital of Culture in 2031, emphasizing that culture is a right that should be accessible to everyone.
The event concluded with a photo capturing the collaboration between institutions, cultural entities, and civil society, reflecting the spirit of Oviedo 2031. A new website has been launched to disseminate information and updates about the candidacy.
