Por Redaccion The Sports Councilor, Concepción Méndez Suárez, has attended this morning, at the plenary hall of the City Council, the presentation of the 62nd edition of the Rally Blendio Princesa de Asturias-Ciudad Oviedo, which will take place on September 11, 12, and 13.
The councilor, accompanied among others by Julián Moreno, president of the Principado Automobile Club, organizer of the Rally, has stated that «from the Oviedo City Council, talking about this Rally is always a challenge. We had it with COVID, post-COVID, a combination of dirt and asphalt. And this year, it is this new format, for two years, the Rally on dirt, with Oviedo as the epicenter of the start and also the La Manjoya area, so we will always bet on this event. I said it the other day and I reiterate it here today, with the Vuelta a Asturias. In the end, Oviedo and Asturias have a baggage that allows us all sports disciplines, using our natural environment and having this showcase as our community and city, of which we are very proud.» This «starting gun is an honor for the Oviedo City Council. And from here, we know that there will be many events, because Julián Moreno at the helm and the rest don’t stop.»
Nacho Villarín, CEO of Shakedown Media, has anticipated that «this 62nd edition will mark a before and after in the history of one of (the tests with the greatest tradition and best reputation of the Spanish Rally Supercup and this discipline of Spanish motorsport throughout the national geography. The Princess of Asturias Rally, the Blendio Princess of Asturias-Ciudad Oviedo Rally is always synonymous with guarantee, an absolutely unparalleled legacy, and innovation. It demonstrated it at the time, in the 80s, with the bet for the first time on an urban section in the city center of Oviedo, subsequently also with the incorporation in an international event like the Intercontinental Rally Challenge, next in 2023 with the occasion of its anniversary, with the bet for the first time on an absolutely mixed route, unprecedented in the history of the Spanish Rally Supercup and it will once again bet on a great novelty assuming an unprecedented challenge as it will be the fact of being held entirely over three days of competition on dirt, something that had never happened before in the more than 60 years of history of this event promoted by the Principado Automobile Club of Asturias.»
Ulpiano Nosti, race director of the Blendio Princess of Asturias-Ciudad Oviedo Rally, has recalled that «once last year’s rally ended, the Spanish Federation proposed the possibility of making the leap to a full dirt rally. The challenge was assumed by the Automobile Club, I think with quite a responsibility and a lot of work from then until now, I believe we are able to guarantee that the Rally will have all the timed kilometers on Asturian dirt and that we are able to have a good rally within the superrally.» Another of «the challenges of this year» will be, in his opinion, that «before everything started from La Manjoya and in this 62nd edition, right now we start from Oviedo, from the urban center – Uría street – with all the consequences that implies entering and exiting a rally through the city.» However, «about the economic impact, we have a forecast of between 20 and 30% more cost than in an asphalt rally but we understand the passion and attraction that dirt has that’s why we are convinced that it will mean a greater influx of the public than in previous years.»
