Plataforma ciudadana apoya a Pablo de Soto en LABoral

The citizen platform #PuxaLABoral will publicly present in Gijón more than nine hundred signatures of a letter supporting the work of Pablo de Soto at the helm of LABoral Centro de Arte y Creación Industrial and against the «unjust decision» of his dismissal taken by the Board.

Among the signatories of the letter are figures from the Asturian culture and society such as Rodrigo Cuevas, Alex Galán, Pablo Armesto, Noemí Iglesias Barrios, Adolfo Manzano, Avelino Sala, and AMA Asturies.

The reach of the letter extends beyond Gijón and Asturias, with the support of directors from MACBA, Fundación Tàpies, or Fundación Joan Miró; and international artists like Kate Crawford, Vladan Joler, or Oliver Ressler, among many others.

The signed text, obtained by Europa Press, states that Pablo de Soto’s trajectory, especially during his time at LABoral, reflects a «total commitment to creation, art, and culture in Asturias.»

They affirm that his «innovative» vision has led to the implementation of initiatives that have enriched the community from various fields. «Under Pablo de Soto’s management, not only have all the Center’s metrics increased exponentially, but its programming has once again become a reference point, involving and rebuilding ties with the artistic and social community,» they explain.

They believe that something is amiss in the LABoral Board when «five dismissals are counted on its record in just over ten years, and yet, in moments when the center enjoys greater prestige and connection with the community, solutions in favor of the center are omitted, and it is once again decapitated.»

«We cannot allow this censorship. We cannot allow the Center, now thriving, to be decapitated with a dismissal based on vague conjectures. The Board must reconsider its decision,» add the signatories.

CESADO EL 3 DE FEBRERO

It was on February 3 when the Board of the Fundación La LABoral, Centro de Arte, Creación Industrial y Promoción Cultural, unanimously decided in an extraordinary meeting to dismiss LABoral’s director, Pablo de Soto, due to loss of trust.

A week ago, on Monday, February 10, the members of the Scientific Commission of Laboral Centro de arte, Laura Baigorri, María Ptqk, and Pau Waelder, announced their resignation as members of the Scientific Commission of LABoral Centro de Arte y Creación Industrial, days after De Soto’s dismissal. They did so in «disagreement» with the way the dismissal had been handled and the lack of communication from the Board to the Scientific Commission.
