The PSOE of Gijón has stated this Sunday that a negligence by the local government left the Local Police and Firefighters disconnected for hours on the day of the blackout. The socialists denounced that the generator that was supposed to supply the internal communication systems did not have enough diesel.
As explained by councilor Ramón Tuero, on Monday, April 28, during the general power outage that affected the entire country, the TETRA communication system of the Gijón City Council stopped working.
The PSOE ensures that in a situation like this, the electrotechnical regulation for low voltage (RGBT) indicates that it is mandatory to have alternative systems to supply electricity in case of emergency to the Plaza Mayor buildings and the essential computer systems, especially the communication system of the Police and Firefighting services.
«The generator, which should be available for emergencies like the blackout, worked for a very short time until it consumed the scarce liters of diesel it had. It is truly disheartening that we cannot count on a team behind the City Council that responds effectively, beyond the photo, in exceptional situations where it is more necessary than ever to guarantee the safety of the citizens,» lamented the councilor.
However, Tuero emphasized that, despite the severity of the situation, we must recognize the great work of the municipal staff, «police officers, firefighters, public company workers, all did exemplary work with great professionalism, which their bosses did not have.»
«The emergency services could not communicate with each other for something as simple as the generator that was supposed to be ready had no fuel. Who is responsible? Just this week, we witnessed how the councilors of Finance and Citizen Security of Foro, María Mitre and Nuria Bravo, passed the buck to each other, even blaming a third councilor, the councilor of Public Works Gilberto Villoria,» Tuero pointed out.
The socialist councilor concludes that with this situation, «they have surpassed Pepe Gotera and Otilio in their management of the City Council.»
