Provisionally, the Governing Board will approve waterproofing the space on Tuesday
The Mayor of Gijón, Carmen Moriyón, has informed neighborhood representatives of El Coto on Monday that «the long-awaited renovation of Plaza de La República is underway.»
Similarly, during a visit to the area, she conveyed that the local Governing Board will approve the waterproofing works on Tuesday while the Infrastructure Department drafts the final project. This was stated by the Mayor of Gijón through her social media channels.
Moriyón explained that the project, with works expected to start in the summer of 2026, will adhere to the requests of the neighbors, «thus discarding the unfeasible proposal of the previous government and ensuring a significant improvement in the quality of life in the neighborhood,» she emphasized.
