The XVIII edition of ‘Avilés Ciudad Dylanita’ celebrates Bob Dylan’s 84th birthday

As every year, Avilés becomes Ciudad Dylanita to pay tribute to Bob Dylan on his birthday. The musician from Minnesota will reach the age of 84 on Saturday, May 24, and he will do so actively, as he has been on a never-ending tour since 1988.
On Friday, May 23, to celebrate Dylan’s continued presence, ‘Avilés Ciudad Dylanita’ will once again bring together a significant cast of musicians at the Espacio Escénico de la Factoría Cultural, starting at 8:30 pm, to pay homage to one of the most influential figures in the history of music.
This year’s event will feature performances by Broken Roads, Silvidos y Gemidos, Chino el Indio Texano, Alexandra in Grey, Toni Bustamante, and Nacho García, all supported by Zimmermans, a support band made up of veteran musicians from the regional scene.
Tickets, priced at a flat rate of 10 euros, can be purchased at www.mutick.com, as well as at the city’s establishments Café Lord Byron and Discos Elepé.
Before that, on Thursday, May 22, Dylan’s music will once again fill the streets, as Plaza de España transforms into Boulevard Dylanita. Starting at 12:00 pm, Jorge Otero (Stormy Mondays), Pico, and Michael Lee Wolfe will perform cover versions.
Over the 17 editions of Avilés Ciudad Dylanita that have already taken place, more than 70 artists have participated, over 20 parallel concerts have been held in bars across the city, three photo exhibitions have been organized, and three films or documentaries about Dylan have been screened.

– 8:30 pm. Concert Avilés Ciudad Dylanita. Espacio Escénico de la Factoría Cultural, with Broken Roads, Silvidos y Gemidos, Chino el Indio Texano, Alexandra in Grey, Toni Bustamante, and Nacho García, accompanied by Zimmermans as the support band.

Zimmermans
The band led by Tete Bonilla will be the support band for the other guests. Zimmermans is made up of veteran musicians from the regional scene: Tete Bonilla, Julio Gilsanz, José Ramón Feito, J.C. Cabin, and Miguel Herrero.
Chino el Indio Texano
Chino El Indio leads the Asturian band Mota Blues and when he performs solo, he embodies any rock legend; this time, he will do it in the Asturian Dylan style. With his unique voice and unforgettable aesthetic, Chino El Indio is a key figure in the Asturian music scene.
Toni Bustamante
A veteran musician from Avilés, known for being part of legendary local bands like Belcebú, Marvel, Tubos de Escape, Brecha, etc. Toni, an elegant and skilled guitarist, embraces Dylanism for a day.
Silvidos y Gemidos
Almost 10 years ago, Silvia and Gemma performed «Man gave Names to All the Animals,» a performance that left a lasting impression on those who attended that edition of Ciudad Dylanita. Regulars on the Asturian music scene every weekend, they promise classic Dylan songs that the audience can sing along to.
Nacho García
A singer-songwriter from Avilés who has been away from the stage for some time but returns to pay tribute to the old Bob. Nacho has participated in Avilés Ciudad Dylanita on several occasions, but it has been more than half a decade since then.
Broken Roads
The Avilés duo is the most important country band in the region, thanks to their extraordinary voices and exquisite songs. This time, they take on Bob Dylan’s repertoire with their unique style and unmistakable vocal interpretations.
Alexandra in Grey
Sandra Lusquiños made her debut at this festival almost ten years ago with the band Umami; a decade later, she leads this high-flying Avilés band. While recording new songs and preparing new projects, she will delight the audience with her incredible voice, performing two wonderful Dylan songs.
