Avilés, stage departure of the Tour of Spain on Saturday, September 6.

Avilés will host the stage departure of the Tour of Spain on Saturday, September 6. 135 kilometers in a day that will start from the Niemeyer Center and end at La Farrapona. The councilor of Urban and Economic Development, Manuel Campa, celebrates Avilés’ presence in the Tour of Spain calendar «with the departure of one of the most spectacular stages, due to its route and mythical mountain finish. It is a great tourist and advertising promotion for the city, a show with followers worldwide and where the impact goes beyond the sporting aspect.»

Manuel Campa attended the presentation event in Oviedo this morning for the three stages of the Tour of Spain 2025 that will pass through Asturias. These stages, as in previous editions, can be decisive for the outcome of the race due to the difficulty of their routes, with mountain presence and finishes on summits that have witnessed great cycling feats such as La Farrapona and L’Angliru.

On that Saturday, September 6, the peloton will depart from the Plaza of the Niemeyer Center in Avilés to cover 135 kilometers and finish at La Farrapona, in the heart of the Somiedo Natural Park. To reach there, they will have to overcome demanding climbs like Tenebredo and San Llaurienzu.

Manuel Campa emphasized that the Avilés-La Farrapona stage is «one of the major ones» in this edition of the Tour of Spain, due to its finish at one of the most difficult summits.

At the stage departure from Avilés, spectators can enjoy a route through the city streets where they can see the cyclists pass by until the final departure a few kilometers ahead. «A magnificent moment to showcase the charm of Avilés to Spain and the world,» Campa emphasized.

«We are delighted to have been able to participate today in the presentation of the three stages that will pass through Asturian territory under the direction of the Tour of Spain and with the Government of the Principality, which has promoted this stage start in the city,» concluded councilor Manuel Campa.

The event, held in Oviedo, was presided over by the Vice President of the Government of Asturias and Tourism Councilor, Gimena Llamedo, along with the Director General of the Tour, Javier Guillén. Also in attendance were the Deputy Tourism Councilor, Lara Martínez; the Director General of Sports, Manuela Fernández, and representatives from the Asturian councils that will host stages in this edition of the Tour of Spain.
