Presidenta de El Musel denies hiding reports and demands institutional respect from the City Council
Officials from the Port Authority of Gijón have reproached the «confrontational and disproportionate» attitude of the municipal government team on Tuesday after demanding the resignation of the president of the Gijón port of El Musel, Nieves Roqueñí, or, failing that, that the regional president, Adrián Barbón, dismiss her.
This was indicated through a press release, hours after the press conference held on this day by the deputy of the Mixed Parliamentary Group of the General Assembly of the Principality of Asturias and secretary general of Foro Asturias, Adrián Pumares, the second deputy mayor and councilor of Urbanism, Jesús Martínez Salvador, and the director general of Alcaldía, Coordinación y Proyectos de Ciudad, Jaime Fernández – Paíno.
The Port Authority emphasized that it is «false» that there have been deceptions or concealment of any document related to the coastal strip of the former Naval Gijón shipyard area, as well as maintained that it is «false» that the report from the State Advocacy was available during the period when an agreement was being sought between both institutions.
At the same time, it has been defended that the Port Authority has always had the intention to complete the process of ceding the maritime strip, and to do so with a collaboration proposal for the recovery of the former Naval Gijón lands.
«This has not been possible due to the municipal team’s permanent refusal to establish any kind of dialogue for the agreement,» they asserted.
They also pointed out that, in the context of seeking the aforementioned agreement, the Port Authority consulted its legal advisors, including the State Advocacy itself, to guide the drafting of the clauses for the cession of the strip.
For all these reasons, they regretted that the municipal government «chooses to continue closing all doors to understanding and institutional respect.»
“My approach to the City Council since I took office has been the same that guided me when I was a councilor, and the second deputy mayor can attest to it: back then, it was possible to reach good agreements, beneficial for the citizens of Gijón, which contrasts with the current attitude,” emphasized Roqueñí.
«The port, due to its involvement in the city and its important role in generating employment and economic activity, deserves something else,» she stated, regarding the press conference of Foro Asturias, and especially the «obsession» of Pumares with her, according to the president of El Musel.
