Igualdad celebrates 8-M with theater and exhibitions and the reading of the Manifesto of the Municipal Council on Friday, March 7th

A week to commemorate International Women’s Day in Avilés.
The Department of Equality of the Avilés City Council has planned a series of activities to commemorate International Women’s Day on 8-M, starting on February 24 with the call for two workshops, one in the morning and one in the afternoon, for the creation of artisan brooches. It will take place at the Casa de las Mujeres, and the purpose is to create pieces that can be worn during the commemorative activities of 8-M. Participation requires registration.
On Thursday, March 6, the exhibition ‘Art and Freedom’ will be inaugurated at the Casa de las Mujeres. That same day, at 8:00 in the evening at the Teatro Palacio Valdés, the play ‘La playlist de mamá. A que voy yo y lo encuentro’ will be performed.
The main event in Avilés will take place on Friday, March 7 at 12:00 in Plaza de España with the reading of the 8M Manifesto by the Municipal Council of Women of Avilés. Subsequently, the participating public will move to the nearby Casa de las Mujeres (C/La Ferrería, 27), where at 12:30 the Inauguration of the exhibition of the XXVI contest of posters and photographs «March 8» convened by the Department of Equality and the III Reunion of Women from associations and entities that have actively contributed in different times to achieve real equality in our municipality.
To celebrate 8M and participate in the regional feminist demonstration that will take place in Gijón this year on Saturday, March 8, the Avilés City Council, as is customary, will provide free buses for interested participants. The buses will depart at 11:00 from Jardines Street in Las Meanas. Registration is required from February 24 at 10:00 until March 6 at 10:00, subject to availability.
For Saturday, March 15, the XI Avilés Equality March is scheduled to depart from Plaza de España at 11:00. A fun and family-friendly march with a route of 2.5 kilometers through the historic center with animation and various activities along the way. To participate, registration is required from February 13 at 10:00 until March 14 at 22:00, free of charge at the following link.
In addition, there will be complementary activities organized by the Department of Culture with concerts from the Julián Orbón Conservatory and activities from the Estaya de la Llingua with children’s workshops and book presentations. There will also be an exhibition from the association of Physically Disabled People of Avilés and Comarca DIFAC.
