Exhibition of the Ceramics School students at the Cultural Factory.

Exhibition of the end-of-course work of the students of the Municipal School of Ceramics at the Cultural Factory

May 22, 2025

Until June 4th, the adult exhibition showcases around 90 pieces created with various techniques and materials

The students of the Municipal School of Ceramics are presenting an End-of-Course Exhibition where the public can enjoy, free of charge, a popular form of art and admire the quality of many pieces that could easily fit in a gallery. The opening will take place today, Thursday, at 18:45 at the Cultural Factory with the presence of the Councilor of Culture, Yolanda Alonso.

The exhibition, which will be open until June 4th, features works from students of all ages, including adults, young people, and children. The course will conclude on June 19th with the traditional Rakú firing.

The adult student exhibition consists of approximately 88 pieces showcasing a wide range of ceramic techniques: glazes, engobes, special firings, pieces made with different clays, and a variety of forms, some made on the wheel, others using handbuilding techniques, slabs, coils, or sculptural methods. Visitors will have the opportunity to receive a masterclass on the vast world of ceramics.

The adult workshops offered during the 2024/25 course were:

– Introduction: Handbuilding, wheel-throwing, and ceramic decoration (morning and afternoon sessions)
– Advanced techniques (morning and afternoon sessions)
– Form and surface: Ceramic sculpture with geometric shapes (morning and afternoon sessions)
– Research and new ceramic techniques (morning and afternoon sessions)

The installation by the children is named «The Botijo: Tradition and Freshness»

«The botijo,» an iconic piece of our culture, has accompanied generations with its ingenious design and refreshing function, cooling water without electricity.

In this interactive exhibition, children will discover the secrets of the botijo through an installation designed by the youngest students. Through observation and experimentation, we will explore how this humble clay vessel has been essential in the daily life of many families. Understanding the past helps us appreciate the present, so we invite you to immerse yourself in the magic of the botijo and discover why it remains so special.
