Fun for the whole family with the best street artists and 12 shows at AstuRisas
27 Jun. 2025
From July 3 to 6, magic, juggling, clowns, and other circus performances will take over Plaza de España in the afternoons of this street festival.
The street art in July comes hand in hand with AstuRisas, celebrating 22 years of providing family-friendly shows where kids laugh at the falls, juggling, acrobatics, and games where the audience also participates.
One of the highlighted activities of the VERANEAvilés program, established in the festive calendar for many years, was presented this morning by the Councilor of Culture and Festivities, Yolanda Alonso, accompanied by the coordinator of Abierto Asturias, Manuel Díaz, and Mister Tacho, one of the artists featured in the program.
The Councilor of Culture also unveiled the festival poster this year, designed by comic book author Sara Soler, in honor of the 30th edition of the International Comic Days to be held in September. Yolanda Alonso emphasized that the main activities of VERANEAvilés will have their promotional posters designed by illustrators participating in the comic days, a way to celebrate 30 years as a leading event in the genre.
With this Street Art Festival, on the afternoons of July 3, 4, 5, and 6 (from Thursday to Sunday), Plaza de España will transform into a circus ring with three consecutive shows at 6:00, 7:00, and 8:00 p.m.
On Thursday at 5:00 p.m., to warm up before the artists take the stage, there will be time to play at the ‘Ludomóvil’ organized by the Abierto Asturias association, experts in designing activities for a good time, in collaboration with the Avilés City Council for this successful street festival.
This year, the greats of street circus with a strong Argentine presence will be at AstuRisas. Some perform solo but are like multi-track circuses, such as Javi Circo, Ferzza Clown, Mister Tacho, and Pablo Picallo, while others come in pairs, like CIA Circo Volador or Menayerí.
Menayerí: A duo of women from Argentina who combine impressive circus skills with great physical comedy. Their eccentric characters, unique aesthetics, and explosive rhythm define this company.
Javi Circo: Born in Mar del Plata, he is a variety artist specializing in magic and circus, renowned for his YouTube videos with millions of views. Since 1999, he has worked as a circus artist in theaters, television, private events, festivals, street shows, etc. With over 26 years of touring experience in Argentina and Europe, he excels in all types of juggling, specializing in knives and fire.
Ferzza Clown: Since 1998, this great artist surprises the audience with fun sketches of balancing on chairs and magic, hat manipulation, balloon twisting, entertaining the audience with humor without uttering a word.
CIA Circo Volador: A story of acrobatic skills, juggling, balance, and humor unfolds between Tereré and Matildo. She is energetic and determined, unable to hide her pleasure in applause and willing to do anything to get it. Matildo is a character the audience quickly grows fond of. Despite his shyness and insecurities, he would risk his life to overcome any challenge.
Mister Tacho: An artist, magician, and entertainer. A magician who is the king of juggling and balloon twisting, turning the street into a sensory circus, a regular at AstuRisas who delights the audience at Plaza del Parche with his colorful outfits.
Pablo Picallo: Circus, juggling, and magic. Born in 1982 in Buenos Aires, Argentina, he began immersing himself in the circus arts at the age of 15, learning techniques and performing juggling at every opportunity. His artistic career continued with training in Magic, Clown, and Theater specialties.
Cartel: Regarding illustrator Sara Soler, after studying Fine Arts and attending the JOSO school (where she is now a comic book teacher), and contributing to numerous fanzines and works related to theater and cinema, she began her career as a comic book author with «Red & Blue,» a fantasy work for young audiences.
This was followed by ‘In the Dark,’ a couple of comics for Dark Horse directly for the United States, and after starting as a fanzine, her wonderful graphic novel ‘Us,’ an autobiographical story that has captivated the public, was published by Oni Press and released in Spain by Astiberri. She talked about this and her upcoming projects in Avilés when she visited the Comic Days for the first time as a guest in September 2024.
