Emtusa alcanza récord de viajeros en el primer cuatrimestre: 445.615 usuarios más.

Moriyón insists on not fining in the ZBE «no matter how much they harass us, blackmail us»

The Municipal Urban Transport Company of Gijón (Emtusa) has set a record for passengers in the first four months of this year, reaching a total of 7,550,576.

According to a press release from the Gijón City Council, this represents 445,615 more users than in the same period last year.

The Gijón City Council also highlighted that in January, there was a week where the official rates were already applied, and the number of passengers did not decrease. In fact, they emphasized that there were 108,697 more users that month compared to the same period in 2024.

TRANSPORT AID

Just this Tuesday, the mayor of Gijón, Carmen Moriyón, in an interview with Cope, confirmed that the local government will not impose fines in the Low Emission Zone (ZBE) of La Calzada until heavy traffic is eliminated from this area of the city.

However, this means that the State will not grant aid for land transport in the second half of the year, resulting in an increase in fares with the citizen card starting from July 1st.

«No matter how much they harass us, blackmail us, and try to turn the public against this government, the government will continue to work in a coherent manner,» Moriyón emphasized.

Additionally, regarding Emtusa, she mentioned their intention to allocate a portion of the 2024 surplus to pay off the loan taken out for the renewal of their bus fleet.

Another part of the surplus will be used to purchase the plot of land from the University of Oviedo in La Pecuaria, where the Cabueñes festivities are held, and which was already committed to the second phase of expanding the Scientific and Technological Park.
