The Government of the Principality will incorporate five innovations into the Vocational Training offer for the 2025-2026 academic year: two cycles and three specialization courses that will be taught for the first time in Asturias. It will also adapt and expand the offer in eight existing titles.
The two new cycles are a medium degree in Machinery Electromechanics, which will be implemented intensively at the IES Sánchez Lastra in Mieres del Camín, and a higher degree in Organization and Control of Construction Works at the IES Fernández Vallín in Gijón, which will complement this professional family at the center.
The Vocational Training centers in the Principality will have 12,475 places for the first years of basic, medium, and higher degrees, distributed in 110 face-to-face cycles and 10 specialization courses. This offer represents an increase of 170 places compared to the current academic year.
Regarding the specialization courses, there will be one in Cheese Technology and Management at the IES Escultor Juan de Villanueva in La Pola Siero, aimed at students who have completed the higher degree cycles in the Food Industry family.
Another course will focus on Personal Coordination in Professional Meetings, Congresses, Fairs, Exhibitions, and Events, to be taught at the CIFP of Hospitality and Tourism in Gijón, completing the training in the Hospitality and Tourism family.
The third specialization training in Maintenance and Safety in Hybrid and Electric Vehicle Systems will be implemented at the IES Fernández Vallín in Gijón, as a complement to students who have completed the higher degree cycles in the Transport and Vehicle Maintenance family.
Lastly, eight existing training cycles will be expanded to other educational centers. These include the medium degree cycle in Restaurant Services at the IES in Llanes, reinforcing the Hospitality and Tourism family in the eastern area.
A medium degree cycle in Natural Environment and Leisure Guide and a higher degree cycle in Dental Hygiene will also be added at the IES in Cangas del Narcea, aiming to strengthen the offer in the western region.
Two new higher degree cycles in Social Integration will be offered at the IES Nº 1 in Gijón and the CIFP in Cerdeño (Oviedo) to meet the high demand for training in the central area.
A higher degree cycle in Early Childhood Education will be available at the IES Víctor García de la Concha in Villaviciosa to balance the offer and demand among centers that offer these cycles.
A higher degree cycle in Travel Agencies and Event Management will be offered in virtual mode at the CIFP of Hospitality and Tourism in Gijón, where it was previously taught in face-to-face mode.
In Basic Vocational Training, the offer of degrees in Cooking and Restoration will be increased at the CIFP of Hospitality and Tourism in Gijón.
Angel Balea, the Director General of Vocational Training, highlighted the increase in the number of places and detailed the criteria followed to create the new offer. «It was a priority to meet the demands of organizations that represent the business sector,» he said.
Additionally, the upcoming academic year will see the completion of the implementation of the new Vocational Training model, derived from the new law, with the inclusion of the second courses.
