El Levante lidera con una goleada y el Racing sigue cerca del ascenso directo

Levante enjoyed a beautiful 5-2 victory over Real Zaragoza to become the leader of LaLiga Hypermotion and solidify their chances of direct promotion, although Racing de Santander defeated Huesca 3-1 to stay close.

The ‘granota’ team started strong with goals from Carlos Álvarez and Alex Forés in the first fifteen minutes, and they didn’t let up to make their intentions of returning to La Liga clear at the Ciudad de Valencia. Julián Calero’s team sealed the deal with Comandante Morales’ 3-0 in the second half, and the game heated up towards the end.

Carlos Espí and Iván Romero completed the home team’s victory against a Zaragoza side led by Gabi, despite two late goals in stoppage time (5-2). Levante now has 66 points, equal to Elche, who will play their match against Albacete on Sunday in matchday 36.

Racing, with 63 points, is within reach of direct promotion after an important victory in the midst of their inconsistent form. The Alcoraz stadium witnessed a dramatic turn of events with the expulsions of Miguel Loureiro and Jorge Pulido within a minute with half an hour to go and a 1-0 lead for Huesca thanks to Iker Kortajarena’s early goal.

Almost immediately, Mario García leveled the score at 1-1, and in the 83rd minute, Andrés Martín turned the game around against a Huesca side that ended with a third expulsion, Hugo Vallejo, and Juan Arana’s 1-3 goal in stoppage time. Racing continues to fight, complicating things for Huesca, who are now dependent on other results to stay in the ‘Top 6’.

On another note, Burgos extended their unbeaten streak to eight games but left with a sense of missed opportunity in a 2-2 draw against Cádiz, as they continue to dream of promotion. In the cold and rainy conditions at El Plantío, the home team turned around Rubén Sobrino’s 0-1 lead, only to concede Roger Martí’s 2-2 equalizer in the 84th minute. Thus, the Andalusian team salvaged a point that falls short in their crisis as they look towards the relegation zone after five winless matches.

In a direct battle at the bottom, Racing de Ferrol clung to their slim chances of survival, now 15 points behind with 18 left to play, after a 1-0 win over Eldense, who are in the relegation zone.
