The mayor of Caso, Miguel Fernández, the head of the Fire Department area of the SEPA, Lucía Blanco, the director general of Local Cooperation and Security, Olmo Ron, the Mobility councilor, Alejandro Calvo, and the director general of the Environment, Susana Madera. – GOBIERNO DE ASTURIAS

The Mobility, Environment, and Emergency Management councilor, Alejandro Calvo, explained this Saturday that the SEPA helicopter that crashed on Friday in the Tanes reservoir (Caso) after getting tangled with high-voltage cables is submerged in the reservoir at a depth of between 10 and 20 meters.

In statements sent to the media after his visit to the affected area, Calvo explained that SEPA drones and a boat are trying to confirm the exact location to start, most likely on Sunday, the recovery operations of the aircraft.

The councilor indicated that the protocol for extracting the helicopter is already being prepared, and the plan is for divers to use floaters on Sunday to bring the aircraft closer to the pier and then remove it with a crane from there.

THE PILOT IS ALREADY HOME

On the other hand, Calvo explained that the helicopter pilot, the sole occupant, «is fine,» and on Friday late in the afternoon, he was discharged from Valle del Nalón Hospital.

The pilot had managed to swim out of the water on his own after the accident. The incident took place around 5:50 p.m. when the helicopter was working on extinguishing a forest fire in Sobrescobio, above the Alba route. At the time of the accident, it was loading water in the reservoir.

After the accident, there was a power outage in the municipalities of Caso and Sobrescobio, an issue that was resolved on the same Friday.
