The Council of Women of the City Council of Langreo has publicly expressed its «strong rejection» of an event scheduled for Saturday, March 15th at the Sabor nightclub in La Felguera, featuring the presence of the ‘Dandy from Barcelona’.
«We do not understand why space is given to people with speeches like those of the ‘Dandy from Barcelona’, a character characterized by his clear fascist, racist, xenophobic, and misogynistic ideology,» they stated in a statement sent to the media.
For the Council of Women, these qualifications «do not respond to a subjective judgment», but are «proven facts through his different public interventions posted on social networks by himself.»
«Just a few weeks ago, he visited a nightclub in les Arriondes, where after the Spanish anthem played, he made proclamations that exalted Francoism, such as «Long live the Leader!», actions for which he and the nightclub that hosted the event have been reported,» they added.
The Council of Women of the City Council of Langreo has argued that «entertainment events cannot be held around a figure like this» as it «minimizes the harm that his speeches do to the LGBTQ+, migrant, racialized, or women population.»
«We understand that someone may rent a venue for a party without knowing what will happen, but when the event is advertised on the business’s social networks and the nature of the event is known, the necessary measures must be taken,» they concluded, asking the venue management to cancel the planned event.
