El Antroxu d’Avilés comienza mañana en Llaranes.

On the 25th of February 2025, Avilés is gearing up for a week-long journey through time and space at Antroxu 2025. The festivities kick off tomorrow, Wednesday the 26th of February, with the Sardinero Wednesday celebration in Llaranes. The day will commence at 7 pm with a parade of mazcaritos, mojigangues, and fanfarries, led by the El Felechu fanfare, from La Espina street to the main square of the neighborhood. Upon arrival at the square, the Cofradía de la Sardina Arenque will carry out the solemn acts that define the Antroxu tradition.

The following day, Thursday the 27th of February, will be dedicated to women with the Jueves de Comadreo, celebrated with snacks and dinners throughout the region. In the San Lorenzo square, in Llaranes Viejo, a parade will start at 6:30 pm, culminating in the planting of the sardine on the balcony of the main square. Later at 8 pm, a parade of fanfares and batukada organized by the Puxabatuque association will begin in the Sabugo neighborhood. Simultaneously, in Plaza de España «La Vieja,» the main stage will host the Jueves de Comadres of the Aviles Antroxu.

The highlight of the festivities comes on the next day, the Coronation Friday, when the Peña Belenitos will be crowned as the Kings and Queens of Goxu and Faba 2025. The ceremony, presided over by the Mayor Mariví Monteserín and the Councilor of Festivities, Yolanda Alonso, will take place at 9 pm in Plaza de España. As a novelty, the senior centers of the city have created the crowns, brooches, and part of the decoration for this event.

Before that, at 5:30 pm in front of the Town Hall, one of the most beloved activities of Antroxu for all ages will start, the Desfile d’Escolinos Antroxaos, with children from schools in Avilés and their families. They will march towards the Avilés Sports Complex (passing through Cámara, Cuba, Orejas Sierra, Plaza del Vaticano, and Juan XXIII), where a musical party by Blinca will take place.

To end the day, two concerts are scheduled. At 10:30 pm, ‘Catalina grande, piñón pequeño’ will perform, followed by ‘Me Fritos and the Gimme Cheetos’ at midnight.
