Desfile y espectáculos en honor a Jaime I The Conqueror en Murcia

Similarly, the «Reconquest of Jaime I» will be recreated at 5:00 p.m.

The Plaza Belluga will host an event next Saturday at 12:30 p.m. that will revive the entry of Jaime I the Conqueror into Murcia, a «crucial» episode in the city’s history. This was announced by the Minister of Tourism, Commerce, and Consumption, Jesús Pacheco, accompanied by the Mayor of Culture and Identity, Diego Avilés; The President of the Municipal Council of Torreagüera, Silvia Almarcha; The President of the Assembly of Merchants of Santa Eulalia, Francisco Guerao; and the District Councilor of Santa Eulalia, Francisca José Alcázar.

The event is set around the tensions and diplomacy of 1266.

The arrival of the Aragonese monarch, aimed at quelling the Mudejar rebellion, not only strengthened his image as a military strategist but also as a key player in southern politics.

Starting at 11:00 a.m., the event will kick off from various parts of the city. At Plaza de San Bartolomé, where Kácili Mudejăs, on behalf of the Muslim Society of the time, will begin his tour through the streets of the Society, Poxmarina, and Sol until reaching Belluga.

Likewise, King James I and his Men will depart for the first time from Plaza de Santa Eulalia, passing through San Antonio, Isidoro de Cierva, and Plaza de Los Apostoli, until the end of the tournament at Belluga.

In this central enclave of the city, a symbolic meeting between James I and Mudejăs will be organized, depicting the conflict, accompanied by the performance of the Christian ballet of the Moorish and Christian festivities.

«The recreation of the entry of James I is not only a tribute to our history but also an opportunity to remember the richness and cultural heritage of our past,» said the Minister of Culture and Identity, Diego Avilés.

The event will conclude at 6:00 p.m.

Furthermore, Pacheco mentioned, «There are two acts, one that is born, the other that has joined the same poster, under the same umbrella, and also with a vocation to continue with the self-assessment or to feed each one of the city of Murcia.»

This event is part of the extended program of activities organized by the city of Murcia to commemorate the 1200 years of the city’s history, with proposals covering actions to recover heritage, conferences and exhibitions, festive and cultural activities.
