A delegation from the Government of the Principality of Asturias, led by the Vice Minister of Science, Iván Aitor Lucas del Amo, will be present this Monday at the start of the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona. In this edition, the congress expects to exceed the 101,000 visitors from last year and will focus on the application of artificial intelligence (AI) as the main theme.
This Monday, the Vice Minister of Science will meet early in the day with representatives from Huawei at the Mobile World Congress 2025. It is expected that later, around 16:00, he will meet with representatives from Orange. Next, he will have a meeting with representatives from NTT Data.
The Director General of Asturex, Bruno López, will also attend the MWC as part of the Asturian delegation led by Asturex, SRP, and CEEI, which has a stand in the 4YFN area.
The telecommunications congress will run until Thursday, March 6 at the Gran Via venue of Fira de Barcelona, located in L’Hospitalet de Llobregat (Barcelona), and is expected to generate an economic impact of between 540 and 550 million euros in the region.
The event will also address the evolution of 5G, showcasing innovations such as software that allows remote driving of a car located in Finland or a real-scale model of a Sateliot satellite.
The congress will occupy the entire L’Hospitalet venue and the 4YFN space will be present again at the MWC, bringing together startups, investors, and companies to foster their growth in pavilions 8.0 and 8.1.
Additionally, the ‘Talent Arena’ space, promoted by the Mobile World Capital Barcelona (MWCapital) foundation, aims to bring together the international developer community at the Montjuïc venue during the same dates.
EXHIBITORS
The Mobile event expects to gather approximately 2,700 exhibitors from multiple countries and 1,200 speakers, of which 40% will be women, in about twenty stages.
Among the exhibitors will be recurring companies like Google, Huawei, Meta, Samsung, Microsoft, or Xiaomi, and for the first time, Alibaba Cloud, China Unicom, Databricks, or Indra, among others, will be attending.
Regarding the Catalan representation, the Generalitat will promote the participation of the Catalan digital ecosystem at the conference, hosting 46 companies and technology centers in the Catalan pavilion of the event, and 52 startups in the ‘Catalonia’ space of the 4YFN.

Last year’s edition brought together 101,000 visitors from 250 countries and led to the creation of up to 9,200 part-time jobs in Catalonia, 100 more than in the previous edition.
There were 2,700 exhibitors, sponsors, and partners, and the congress generated an economic impact in Barcelona of 502 million euros, more than double the amount generated in its first edition in the city in 2006.
