Importance of Visit to Campoastur
La directora general de Agricultura, Agroindustria y Desarrollo Rural del Principado, Begoña López, highlighted the significance of the visit by the secretaria de Estado de Agricultura y Alimentación, Begoña García, to the cooperative center Campoastur in Otur (Valdés). She emphasized that this visit was an opportunity for producers to communicate their concerns directly to the Ministry and collaborate on rural development measures.

López underscored that Campoastur, a highly esteemed cooperative with numerous producers offering essential services, provided an ideal setting to understand the sector’s needs.
Measures for Rural Development
The regional official explained that specific measures have been implemented through the demographic challenge, recognizing it as a national and European issue. Asturias has introduced the concept of «ticket de emprendimiento» in Leader grants, allowing farmers, breeders, and businesses to hire personnel for two years, facilitating growth opportunities.
Addressing Housing and Labor Challenges
López emphasized the importance of addressing housing and labor issues to attract individuals to rural areas, including those from outside Spain. Efforts are being made to raise awareness about the need for workers in the agricultural sector through informational sessions at fairs and other events.
