The Avilés City Council, along with the company Sialtrónica, has been awarded the Technological Innovation Prize at the eighth edition of Innpulso Emprende, the Annual Meeting of Mayors with Innovation, held this week in Gijón. In this edition, 42 localities from all over Spain participated with their respective innovative projects.
Sialtrónica, selected by the City Council as the Most Innovative Company of Avilés 2025, develops technological solutions to improve road safety. During the event, the company’s R&D&I director, Lorena Turrado, presented their smart pedestrian crossings, a system that integrates plates in the pavement and sensors that detect the presence of pedestrians, activating the lighting at the ends of the crossing and on the vertical signage. As explained, this system allows reducing vehicle speed by up to 19% and decreases accidents at pedestrian crossings by up to 69%.
AVILÉS INNOVATION MODEL
The Councilor for Urban and Economic Development, Manuel Campa, praised the award received by Sialtrónica within the framework of the Avilés Innovation Model, emphasizing the role played by both large R&D centers and small companies making their way into the national and international market from the city.
