Actividades por el Día Internacional de la Mujer en Asturias: conciertos y talleres educativos.

   To commemorate International Women’s Day on March 8, the municipalities of Asturias have organized a series of activities with the aim of advocating for gender equality and reflecting on both the achievements made and the challenges that remain.

   The annual unified demonstration that marches through the streets of Asturias will take place this year in Gijón at 12:00, starting at the Plaza de Toros de El Bibio and ending at the Humedal.

   The General Directorate of Equality of the Asturian Government has arranged a program of activities that span the entire month of March, such as the interactive space ‘Experience coeducation’, which will be held in Oviedo. In Gijón, Equality has organized a showcase of short films directed by women and the premiere of the documentary film ‘Invincible’.

   The institutional event of 8M will take place at the Teatro Palacio Valdés in Avilés on March 7 at 5:00 pm, and will feature a speech by the President of the Principality, Adrián Barbón.

HERE ARE THE EVENTS BY MUNICIPALITY

   – Oviedo: the council has launched a campaign under the slogan ‘Oviedo, in equality and respect’, with over 50 activities that will run throughout the months of March, April, and May. These include the creation of murals, concerts, and educational workshops. On March 7, the City Council will hold an institutional event in the Plenary Hall, where tribute will be paid to Real Oviedo Femenino.

   – Gijón: in addition to hosting the demonstration, a series of activities have been scheduled from March 10 to 22 in public libraries, a theater cycle, and the cultural route ‘Rosario de Acuña’ on March 8.

   – Avilés: on March 6, the exhibition ‘Art and Freedom’ will open at the Casa de las Mujeres. The main event will take place on March 7 at 12:00 pm, with the reading of the manifesto of 8M in Plaza de España and the opening of the exhibition of the XXVI poster and photography contest. The City Council will provide free buses to facilitate participation in the feminist demonstration in Gijón on March 8.

   – Siero: mountaineer Raquel García Ceballos will participate in various activities, including talks and routes. On March 7, she will give a lecture about her mountaineering experience at the Teatro Auditorio de La Pola, and will also take part in the Ruta de Los Palacios on March 8. On March 19, psychologist Isa Duque will conduct a workshop on healthy love at the CPI de Lugones Auditorium.

   – Villaviciosa: will kick off its program on Wednesday, March 5, with a gathering in the Town Hall Square at 12:00 pm, where the FEMP Manifesto will be read, accompanied by the ‘Femfarria Asturies Combo’ entertainment. Additionally, the municipality will provide bus transportation to attend the demonstration in Gijón.

   The program will continue on March 9 with the performance of the play «We Are Memory», directed by Marisa Vallejo, which pays tribute to rural women and their ancient trades. On March 11, the IES Víctor García de la Concha will host the show ‘Bad Women’, and there will be screenings and workshops at various educational and cultural centers, with activities also for younger audiences.

   – San Martín del Rey Aurelio: will hold activities organized by various local women’s associations between March 7 and 28, including manifesto readings, distribution of commemorative kitchen palettes, a manifesto for students, a gardening workshop, and literary meetings.

   – Castrillón: the program will begin on March 7 with the reading of the manifesto and a violet walk to Arnao, where the historical role of women in mining will be remembered. Throughout the month, various activities will be held, such as the photographic exhibition ‘And… I am a woman like you’ and the screening of ‘Just Wage’, about the seamstresses’ strike in the 1960s. The program will culminate with a participatory concert by the Promúsica Association Choir on March 22.
