El Real Oviedo announced on Wednesday the renewal of Veljko Paunovic as coach until 2026 after his great work in achieving promotion, which will lead the Asturian team in their return to LaLiga EA Sports 24 years later.
«Real Oviedo and Veljko Paunovic have reached an agreement to extend their relationship until June 2026 as coach of the blue team,» says the official statement.
Paunovic was the architect of Oviedo’s promotion after taking charge of the team at the end of March and stringing together seven victories and three draws. Thus, Oviedo came close to direct promotion, but in the playoffs, they eliminated Almería and Mirandés to achieve the long-awaited promotion to the First Division.
«The coach will face this new adventure in the First Division once again accompanied by Claudio Arzeno, Nuno Miguel Gomes, Quinton Fortune, and Alberto Martínez, while Jesús Unanua will return to be the new goalkeeper coach of the first team,» the note adds.
