El Mirandés takes the lead over Oviedo for promotion
An early goal by Reina and a penalty saved by Raúl Fernández decide the first leg of the final at Anduva
CD Mirandés defeated (1-0) Real Oviedo this Sunday in the first leg of the LaLiga Hypermotion playoff final to ascend to LaLiga EA Sports, thanks to a goal by Alberto Reina and a penalty saved by Raúl Fernández, two crucial actions for the home team at the beginning and end of the match held at Anduva.
The final turned ‘red’ after three minutes with the brave header from captain Reina, between the visiting defenders. The 1-0 left Oviedo shaken, who despite having possession, took a long time to create chances. Mirandés became strong defensively, could have doubled the lead with Reina himself, but also became too comfortable.
The Anduva factor and the score in favor did not fully motivate the home team, and the Asturian side came out of their slumber with Ilyas Chaira, who had three chances to equalize for an Oviedo with better sensations at halftime. Without Santi Cazorla, hero of the semifinal playoff due to last-minute discomfort, they sought to step up with the actions of Hassan and Rahim.
The first also broke through with a dangerous header after an hour of play, but Izeta then came close to the 2-0 saved by Aarón Escandell. The game picked up pace but did not break open, and in the 80th minute, Oviedo had a great chance to equalize with a penalty, signaled by VAR, committed by Rincón.
Then, Anduva erupted again with Raúl Fernández’s save against Santiago Colombatto, maintaining the lead for Mirandés as they seek a historic promotion to LaLiga. Veljko Paunovic’s team will have to come back at the Carlos Tartiere next Saturday to return Oviedo to the top tier 25 years later.
