“It is time to regain normalcy; we have pledged our word to transform the education sector, and we will fulfill it,” affirms Vice President Gimena Llamedo

The Vice President of the Government of Asturias, Gimena Llamedo, has valued the pre-agreement reached yesterday with the teaching unions to improve the working conditions of teaching staff. “It is time to act responsibly, and we will not waste a minute in implementing all these measures that will strengthen public education, the best social elevator we have,” stated Llamedo.

Among the commitments included in the pre-agreement, key aspects such as the reduction of the number of students per classroom, the decrease in bureaucratic burden for teachers, and greater attention to diversity in the classrooms have been highlighted. “This pre-agreement has required a great effort from both the trade unions and the Government of Asturias, which is the government of public education. There have been many hours of work, and now is the time to continue moving forward to implement all these measures,” emphasized Llamedo.

Llamedo also criticized the attitude of the Popular Party, which she judges as “embarrassing.” “Once again, they show their true intentions. Like the far right, they seek to block agreements to instigate conflict and wear down the government. But they will have a new opportunity with the upcoming budgets to reveal themselves and decide if they are on the side of public education, as this government is, or if they continue to turn their backs, as they did in previous budgets,” she pointed out.

The Vice President recalled that Asturias is already a benchmark in its commitment to public education, citing examples such as the network of infant schools Les Escuelines / As Escolías and the free first year of university.

“The pre-agreement is just the starting point to continue improving education in Asturias,” Llamedo concluded. “Now is the time to regain normalcy, continue advancing, and consolidate our leadership in public education. The Government of Asturias has pledged its word, and it will fulfill it.”
