The second day of negotiations between the Asturian Government and educational unions has ended without an agreement as ANPE, CCOO, UGT, SUATEA, and CSIF consider that the Principality is blocking the salary improvement for teachers.
After four hours of discussions with several breaks in between, both parties failed to reach a consensus. «We have to be very brief, unfortunately. The union organizations want to inform you that at this moment the negotiations have broken down due to the salary improvement being blocked,» said the strike committee members to the teachers who were still at the EASMU.
Shortly after 11:00 p.m. on Thursday, the General Secretary of CCOO Teaching in Asturias, Borja Llorente, informed the teachers that the five union organizations are «totally willing» to resume negotiations. In the meantime, they have called on the teaching staff to participate «massively» in the mobilizations that will be called for this weekend. «The strike continues on the 9th. The fight continues. Not one step back,» he said.
From the regional government, Vice President Gimena Llamedo explained that on this day, the Principality «has made progress in improving public education,» with improvements in the student-teacher ratio – they will accelerate the reduction of ratios to 23 students in Primary so that it will be effective in the 2027-2028 school year in all cycles – the reduction also in Secondary, the creation of the Economics department requested by the unions, and the salary improvement of 105 euros with a supplement of 65 for teachers with less than six years of seniority.
For Llamedo, this «clear» and «firm» proposal is «brave» and reflects the government’s commitment to public education in Asturias. However, the unions have rejected it arguing the government’s blockage in the salary improvement. In this scenario, the Vice President has assured that the Principality is open to dialogue. «We are not refusing to dialogue and listen,» she said, although before calling them again, she asked the unions to analyze this proposal and its importance.
