According to the official report from the Ministry of the Interior, consulted by Europa Press, overall crime — including both conventional and cybercrimes — increased between January and March 2025 in the following order: Castilla y León (+5%), Asturias (+2.8%), Aragón (+1.9%), Extremadura (+1.4%), Galicia (+0.9%), and La Rioja (+0.8%).
In the specific case of Catalonia, there was a notable decrease in homicides and completed murders (-16%), as well as in home burglaries (-13%), within conventional crime. However, like in the rest of Spain, cases of rape continued to rise, with a 26% increase.
Catalonia significantly improved its data compared to the first quarter of 2024, with an overall crime decrease of 6%. Following Catalonia, the regions with improvements were: Comunitat Valenciana (-5%), Región de Murcia (-3.8%), Canarias (-3.8%), Comunidad de Madrid (-3.5%), and Islas Baleares (-3%).
Navarra (-1.9%) and País Vasco (-1.8%) were the regions with the most significant decrease in crime, while Andalucía, despite having a large population, saw a slight decrease of 0.5% in crime in the first quarter, a figure similar to Cantabria and Castilla-La Mancha.
In 2024, Aragón, Canarias, Islas Baleares, and Cantabria were the regions with the highest increase in crime, although there was a slight decrease of 0.3% in overall crime in Spain. On the other hand, the Community of Madrid experienced the most significant decrease in crime.
In Spain as a whole, the first three months of 2025 saw a 2.8% decrease in crime, with a drop of 11.6% in intentional homicides and completed murders, although attempted cases increased by almost 20%. There was also a 5.3% decrease in property crimes, including indicators of theft, burglary, and vehicle theft, which account for two out of every five conventional crimes.
However, crimes against sexual freedom increased by 3.8%, and sexual assaults, including rape, increased by 7.6% compared to the same period in 2024.
The Crime Balance report is compiled using data provided to the Ministry of the Interior by the National Police, Civil Guard, Ertzaintza, Mossos d’Esquadra, Policía Foral de Navarra, and by those Local Police Forces that provide data to the State Security Forces and Corps.
